Grandma Phyllis' Date Cake

Sift together:

1 3/4 c. flour

2 Tbsp. cocoa

1/2 tsp. salt

1 c. dates, finely chopped-

-pour 1 c. boiling water over dates, add 1 tsp. soda and let stand.

Cream together:

1/2 c. butter or margarine

1/2 c. vegetable oil

1 c. sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

2 eggs

Add dry ingredients and dates to mix. Pour into 9 x 13 pan and sprinkle with 1 c. each of chocolate chips and nuts.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
